Steam and Snow - Rotary OY on Cumbres Pass

Steam and Snow - Rotary OY on Cumbres Pass

23.00

Watch the Cumbres & Toltec Rotary OY in operation for the first time since 1997! In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Rio Grande Rotary OY was brought back to life for an exciting two-day event, plowing snow between Chama, New Mexico and the summit of Cumbres Pass in Colorado. The two-day event kicked off on February 29th with the rotary working between Chama and the New Mexico/Colorado state line, followed by a rare nighttime photo session. On March 1st, the OY battled icy drifts around Windy Point to the 10,015-foot summit of Cumbres Pass. Two K-36 Class Mikados number 487 and 484 put on a great show of brute force against gravity lugging the OY and its classic snowplow train up the 4% grade. The San Juan Mountains thundered in a continuous eruption of steam, snow, and smoke!

Narration is limited so you can enjoy the sight (and sound) of classic Rio Grande narrow gauge equipment working in the dead of winter. If you weren't able to see this event in person, this program is the next best thing!

The IOWA INTERSTATE

The IOWA INTERSTATE

22.00

In Transition 1999-2010

Iowa had a lot of railroad lines and most are gone now, including mainlines of the Milwaukee Road and the Chicago Great Western. It is fortunate the Iowa Interstate was created to keep the old Rock Island Line across Iowa in operation. A true "regional", the road invented a color scheme that attractively combines the school colors of the two largest public universities in the state: the cardinal and gold of Iowa State University and the black and gold of the University of Iowa. It has evolved into a dynamic, interesting rail line. Captured by J. D. Larson, the period of time that is covered in this production covers a real transition for the Iowa Interstate Railroad from 1999 to 2010.Our coverage of the IAIS is in and around Des Moines.

The Iowa Interstate was formed on November 2nd, 1984, using former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific tracks between Chicago, Illinois, and Omaha, Nebraska.

The common power in this era of the IAIS were several older GP7, 8, 9 and 10's.Also, many GP38 and GP38-2's were common. They also ran a few MLW M-420R's.The video concludes when the IAIS took delivery of new GEVO locomotives.

Take a step back in time to see why this regional flourishes today!

EMDs in Minnesota’s Iron Ore Country

EMDs in Minnesotas Iron Ore Country

23.00

In this show, we will cover CN’s former DM&IR ore lines in northeastern Minnesota, along with a sampling of Northshore Mining and BNSF operations in the area. What draws fans to Minnesota’s north woods and the shores of Lake Superior isn’t just the beautiful country or the interesting iron ore operations, it’s the motive power used to pull trains through this unique region. EMD is king here, and we document these fine machines as they thunder across CN’s Missabe, Minntac, Iron Range, and Two Harbors Subdivisions. We also follow Northshore Mining’s mainline between Silver Bay and Babbitt, Minnesota, exploring some remote areas of Minnesota’s Arrowhead. You’ll see NSM’s older SD40-3s, as well as leased SD90MACs hauling raw taconite ore and tailings trains across the railroad. BNSF’s Kelly Lake and Grand Rapids locals are also briefly covered, powered by pairs of SD40-2s.

With GE power slowly being equipped with straight air for ore service on the former Missabe, we made it our goal to bring you the best of EMD-powered trains in the Northland before it was too late. Many SD40 and SD40-2 variants are seen in operation, along with a brief look at Missabe SD38 and SD38-2 locomotives. Rebuilt SD45T-2 tunnel motors in CN, B&LE, and DM&IR paint steal the show!

We cover the area in all four seasons, adding to the variety of the program. Sit back and relax as we take you on an exciting tour from Lake Superior to the Iron Range, in C. Vision’s "EMDs in Minnesota’s Iron Ore Country".

Short lines included are Twin Cities and Western, Minnesota Southern, St. Croix Valley, Minnesota Commercial and more! Along with the main line trains, we catch many locals and transfers with older power. In 2014, North Dakota opened the Bakken Oil Fields and the railroads played a major part in moving this commodity. With much of the North Dakota oil going to the U.S. Northeast and Southeast, power from CSX, Norfolk Southern and Kansas City Southern made numerous appearances in Minnesota. Including several of Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific's Heritage units. From Alco RS27's to Tier 4 SD70Ace's and GEVO's, this series shows it all!
