OVER SHERMAN HILL Blu-Ray

OVER SHERMAN HILL Blu-Ray

In Southeast Wyoming the Laramie Mountains mark the division between the Great Plains and the Rockies. Rising to over 9,500 feet above sea-level, the transition from prairie to mountains is subtle except for the Sherman Granite rock outcroppings which dominate the landscape. Three sets of steel rails twist and wind through this remarkable setting with a history dating back to the First Transcontinental Railroad. This is Union Pacific's legendary route over Sherman Hill.

Join 7idea Productions as we take you trackside from Cheyenne to Laramie. Known as the Laramie Sub, this busy portion of Union Pacific's Overland Route is witness to a nearly steady stream of rail traffic heading to destinations in both the eastern and western United States.

We will begin in historic Cheyenne Wyoming and head west as long, heavy trains snake their way over the highest point on the Transcontinental Railroad. You'll see trains passing through deep cuts, over high fills and rolling through the legendary Hermosa Tunnel. Witness monster manifests over 2 miles long tackling the grade. This is big time railroading in the Cowboy State as trains travel Over Sherman Hill on Union Pacific's Laramie Subdivision.

Columbia River Gorge Part 2 Blu-Ray

BNSF Railway’s Fallbridge Sub

The westward flow of the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean scores the boundary between the states of Oregon and Washington. It cuts through the heart of the Cascade Range creating a natural passage through the mountains known as the Columbia River Gorge.

The river is busy with marine traffic for both business and pleasure. Both banks of the Columbia are lined with steel rails and the competition between the railroads is great. In part 1 of this two-part series, we covered Union Pacific’s Portland Subdivision in Oregon, heading east to Hinkle Yard. Now let’s return west along the BNSF and see the gorge from the Washington side of the river.

We will begin at BNSF’s hump yard at Pasco and head over 200 miles to Vancouver. You’ll see heavy Powder River Basin coal trains, hot Z trains, garbage trains, manifests, Amtrak’s Empire Builder, and a special visit from SP Daylight steam locomotive #4449. One breathtaking image opens after another as the photographic possibilities here are endless. Join us for Columbia River Gorge Part 2: BNSF Railway’s Fallbridge Subdivision.

This program was shot between June 2011 and June 2012.

SD40-2 Survivors Vol 4

SD40-2 Survivors Vol 4

22.00

In January 1972, EMD introduced the SD40-2. This locomotive and its 645 prime mover have operated on railroads for nearly 50 years. Once superior main line power, it has been overtaken by more efficient computerized engines. Trains featured in this program all have SD40-2's leading in all kinds of Class One service from the years 2017 to 2018.

Volume 4 includes all new footage of Union Pacific 40's in both transfer and main line service. We even catch one of Canadian Pacific's rebuilt 40's along with a couple trains led with CSX and NS SD40-2's. Canadian National gave us some great opportunities in this time period with both their SD40-2 and SD40-2W's. The star of the show is BNSF, as they continued to run nine of their 40's on the main lines in Minnesota. On several occasions, BNSF added a cabless GP38-2B in between a pair of 40's for a rare A-B-A consist! On a couple other occasions, BNSF pulled a train with 4 SD40-2's!

If you enjoy seeing these old timers still pulling high speed trains on class one rails, this video will keep you entertained for years to come! SD40-2 Survivors, Volume 4 continues the series of awesome EMD action!

WINTER ON STEVENS PASS Blu-Ray

WINTER ON STEVENS PASS Blu-Ray

24.00

Great Northern's historic crossing of Stevens Pass has never been easy. The first two months of 2020 proved particularly harsh as "Old Man Winter" relentlessly pounded BNSF's Scenic Subdivision with a barrage of winter storms. This provided the perfect setting for capturing trains in punishing arctic conditions.

On the west side, we will visit Skykomish, which lies at the base of the mountain grade. From here, trains dig in for the 2.2% climb across the Foss River Trestle, over the icy waters of Deception Creek, and into Scenic and the west bore of the 7.8-mile-long Cascade Tunnel.

On the east side, trains emerge back into the wintry setting at the east portal of the Cascade Tunnel. From Berne, it's a stiff 2.2% descending grade to Merritt and Winton as the railroad navigates the foothills of the Cascades. Leaving the snow zone behind, we will tour the former railroad town of Leavenworth, which has been transformed into a Bavarian village decorated in Christmas lights for most of the winter. Bundle up and get ready for a chilling railroad adventure!
