This film invites you onto a nostalgic journey on one of the superb lines in the Massif Central. The 112 km long Limoges to Ussel line runs through the Vienne Gorges, including impressive viaducts at Saint Lonard-de-Noblat, La Varache and L'Usine. The long climb to the Millevaches Plateau is broken by a stop to take water using a typical water crane. After several tunnels and the Farges Viaduct the train arrives at Ussel in the heart of the Corrze region. At the centre of the action is steam locomotive 141-TD-740, built in 1932 and saved from the breakers yard in 1981. The locomotive has been restored and is now a classified monument. Don't wait! Climb aboard the heritage compartment carriages and enjoy a dose of steam in the limousin.
SPV's Honest Opinion: Watch and listen to this train (with 3 cylinder beat and typical French shrill whistle) run through beautiful lush green countryside, through cuttings and over dramatic viaducts and bridges. You stand behind the driver as he opens the regulator and look over the cab roof as he lengthens the cutoff. Watch dramatic firing in a tunnel with just the glare of the fire. Other sights are pacing and inside the signal box at Ussel as the loco is shunted, turned and run into the shed for servicing for the return journey. Lastly a wonderful array of french mechanical signals.

Exciting western Canada railroading in 1957. Youll enjoy places like Vancouvers Canadian National & Canadian Pacific yards, see action at locations such as Coquitlam station and Chilliwack, before heading northeast to Kamloops to witness further action. Next we head east to the prairie regions to see CN 4-8-2 #6074 on a passenger train and enjoy a CP class G5 4-6-2 in service. There is a nice variety of action including pacing CN 2-10-2 #4301 west from Kamloops, to CP 4-6-2s and Hudsons in freight & passenger service + many other CN & CP engine types. Genuine CN & CP audio enhances your viewing pleasure. These are truly historic steam treasures that have been preserved on film so a slice of Canadian railway history can be enjoyed for years to come.
SPV's Honest Opinion: Get this first in a series of three now (45 & 50 mins). The others (covering 1958-9) will be out before Xmas. Not yet released in the U.S! 16mm quality, excellent action, nicely edited. A true treasury for all steam fans and highly recommended

Lordsburg Sub The Scenic Southwest
In Volume 6 of our UP-Super Railroad series, Green Frog visits the Union Pacific as it traverses the rugged and scenic southwest, with its cactus deserts and rugged mountains. We'll visit the Lordsburg Subdivision, starting in western New Mexico at Lordsburg then west to Gary, Mondel, and Stiens. Next we'll take you over the pass into Arizona and west through Yannar, Simon, Bowie, and Wilcox and on to Fenner, Benson, and Marsh. Then we will thoroughly explore the beautiful and scenic Senega river valley where each turn brings a different scene and head west to Vail and Tucson. Last we head down to old Mexico on the Nagales branch from Tucson to Nagales Mexico.
SPV's Honest Opinion: A long awaited new volume in a favourite series. The heart of this tape is 'The Stormy', the Lordsburg Sub between Lordburg and Tucson, part of the old SP Sunset route, but it also gets to Nagales on the Mexican border. There has been a deal of thought with this tape and there is always something new & interesting, from dramatic light & shade effects, backdrops of craggy mountains & canyons, trains twisting & turning amongst craggy outcrops, all creating several modeling ideas. Add to this a variety of trains with a mixture of colourful paint schemes and general freights themselves with interesting consists and you have a tape of continually changing interests and so greatly recommended.

Stockton Tower was one of the last remaining towers in California. Built in 1943 this interlocking tower guided trains through the busy Stockton area for five decades. In late 1998 and early 1999 Machines of Iron visited to witness the deactivation of BNSF's Stockton Tower. It controlled the two BNSF mainline tracks, plus the two UP/SP tracks and former WP track that crossed BNSF, together with the connections between the two railroads. Besides plenty of train action, we go inside the tower to see operations explained by an operator and the new automatic 'box-of-tricks' that replaces it. Witness the actual change over and the final sad sight of the demolishing of the tower.
SPV's Honest Opinion: After a very brief history with some fascinating b&w pictures the tape moves on to a great variety of action, both in 1999 immediately before the tower's demise and subsequently, (in day & night/ mist and sun). Includes an informative narration by Rich Melvin, (engineer on the NKP 765), whose presentation is one of the most pleasant around. More than just a runby tape. A tape more interesting than you would expect!

An incredible journey on the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad along its route from Northern NJ to Binghamton, NY. From Binghamton, we head west along New York State's Southern Tier in this exciting tape that was four years in the making. Highlights include: *Locations along the legendary Delaware Division including Millrift, Lackawaxen, *Gulf Summit, Starrucca Viaduct, and Susquehanna *The Binghamton area including the Canadian Pacific at Harpursville Trestle, Beldon Hill and Tunkhannock Viaduct *Operating semaphores between Binghamton and Buffalo, NY *Conrail and Norfolk Southern trains soaring over Portage Viaduct, one of the highest railroad bridges in the Northeast! We've also included several "then & now" scenes showing what the line looked like under former owner, the Erie Lackawanna. There is an astounding variety of trains along this scenic and historic line one of the most revered lines in the Northeast!
SPV's Honest Opinion: I was pleasantly surprised. You certainly get a 'then & now' feeling about the video scenes as they were shot over the last 4 years, but the 16mm film scenes by the famous photographer Emery Gulash from 25/30 years ago really do show fascinating changes. The tape is always interesting with, for example, misty mornings, a train with one of its diesels making so much smoke that it envelopes its train, eight loco hook ups, etc. This is a route too little investigated. You wont be disappointed with this tape.

Taken from the award-winning Trains On Location railroad video documentaries, Best of the West sends you to the heart of the most interesting locations west of the Mississippi River. Discover thrilling train-watching on legendary Cajon Pass and Tehachapi Loop in Southern California. Take an unforgettable winter cab ride over UP's magical Cascade line in western Oregon. See rivals BNSF and UP square off on the Orin line in Powder River coal country. Criss-cross between CN and CP action in the stunning Fraser and Thompson River canyons in western British Columbia. Enjoy the haunting scenery, heavy traffic, and tough grades on BNSFs former Santa Fe line across the Mojave Desert. Plus many other exciting highlights!
SPV's Honest Opinion: All the best bits from all the west tapes, re-edited and re-narrated into a punchy, fast moving and exciting new tape. It brings scenes I have not remembered from the individual tapes and with the cutting out of all the boring bits, it certainly presents a bright new interesting package. Don't miss out on this, the last of the "TRAINS On Location" tapes - especially at this price.
