Most of the photography is black-and-white roster and action shots, but there are four color photos and three watercolors by Mike Pearsall that add drama and variety.

Southern Pacific's unit oil tank train, known as the "Oil Can" is featured in many scenes. The red and yellow SF and SP paint are still seen on Tehachapi. Motive power includes the GP60, C30-7, SD45, GP50 and many others. The Caboose was fast disappearing from America's railroads, but in 1988 they were still a common sight on Tehachapi trains.
