BC RAIL

BC RAIL

21.00

by Highball Productions 120 mins * colour * narrated * PAL

BC's auto tag says "beautiful British Columbia". BC Rail, formerly the British Columbia Railway and Pacific Great Eastern, is unique amongst railroads, both large and small. Its trains are led by a fleet of GE C40-8 CMs, a model only found in Canada. It runs through spectacular and varied scenery26000 revenue car loads on a system that can be divided into two sections, the North Vancouver to Prince George and north of Prince George where a number of lines feed the mainline. In this tape we concentrate on the Vancouver to Prince George mainline.

We travelled the 1800 miles to North Vancouver in August 1997 to fulfil a long time personal ambition. We got a quick look at a rebuilt RS18 switching the yard, a brief look at the Royal Hudson along Howe Sound, then concentrated on the freights. The big GE C40-8CM cowls are very much in evidence and look handsome. The scenery, especially north of Lillooet in the Fraser River Valley, is just magnificent and we got some great shots of trains clinging to the canyon walls, to river banks and lake shores. They looked really good snaking in and out from between the bluffs. We got into most of the famous locations, Britannia, Squamish, Cheakamus, Green River, Tisdall, Birken, Darcy, Seton Lake, Lilloet, Polley, Fountain, Gibbs, Glenfrazer, Pavillion, Moran, Kelly Lake and lots more. We were thrilled to find a pair of C420s switching at Prince George and took a quick trip to Tacheed for a look at the electrics. A very interesting railroad in magnificent scenery. You'll like it as much as we did.

THE GLORY MACHINES

THE GLORY MACHINES

20.00

by Herron Rail * 64 mins * 56 mins colour * hifi sound * narrated

This is the programme that must surely become an archive classic. Made largely from long abandoned and forgotten film that was rescued just as it was being thrown away. The Glory Machines tracks 31 railroads, some to a greater, some to a lesser degree and a few just as brief cameos. This is more professional than just an amateur's film shots, and is truly a unique and superb record of American railroading from the 1920s to the 1950s. Too much to detail fully, we list all railroads covered and give some idea of the contents.

NEW YORK CENTRAL: Streamlined and conventional Hudsons and 3rd rail electrics at Harmon. MAINE CENTRAL: 'Flying Yankie' streamliner, (Sister of PioneerZephyr). LEHIGH & NEW ENGLAND: A fleeting glimpse of a camelback and a look at an L1 mikado and its WWII troop train. PENNSYLVANIA: A fascinating look at K4 pacifics on passenger and 4-8-2 M1s and 2-10-0s on freights (incl. the unusual clearance car) pounding around Horseshoe Curve. NEW YORK - NEW HAVEN & HARTFORD: Old and new GE double ended electrics passing by on passenger trains. DELAWARE - LACKAWANNA & WESTERN: Fast moving Hudsons and 4-84s hauling varnish across the Delaware River Viaduct in spring and winter snow - delightful smoke affects. READING: Scenes of a variety of locos incl. the rare 2-8-8-0 helper engines. CENTRAL RAILROAD OF NEW JERSEY: T1 class 800 series heavy pacifics. ERIE: A snowy railroad Christmas card scene. CHESAPEAKE & OHIO: A&F15 pacifics and a heavy K3a mikado. LOUISVILLE & NAHVILLE: J4a mikado and K5 pacific. NORFOLK & WESTERN: Y class locos in the Blue Ridge mountains. VIRGINIAN: Treble headed side rod electrics. EAST BROAD TOP (ng): Doodlebug and mikado. EASTERN TENNESSEE & WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA (ng) (TWEETSIE): On engine and in caboose as a train winds through the countryside. SOUTHERN: PS2 pacific, TS1 mountain PS4 heavy pacific. PERE MARQUETTE: Brief shot of a freight. MILWAUKEE: A three coach local. CHICAGO & NORTH WESTERN: Baldwin 4-8-4. CHICAGO BURLINGTON & QUINCY: Pioneer Zephyr leaving Kansas city. Canada's FRASER CANYON

Canada's FRASER CANYON

21.00

Travel with 7idea Productions to beautiful British Columbia, Canada where both Canadian Pacific and Canadian National traverse the rugged Fraser Canyon. Cutting a deep swath through the Cascade Range, this is an important link in the trans-Canada rail network connecting Vancouver with Montreal.

This program follows each line's course along opposite banks of the Fraser River between Hope and the confluence with the Thompson River at Lytton. These competing railways operate jointly in the canyon. Eastbounds use Canadian Pacific's Cascade and Thompson Subdivisions, while westbounds travel over Canadian National's Ashcroft and Yale Subs.

One of the many highlights of the canyon are the Cisco Bridges where both railways cross the river with the CN flying over the CP. Our summer and winter visits reveal the grand seasonal contrast of the canyon's appearance. Add to that a great variety of trains from hot shot intermodals, to coal, grain, potash, mixed merchandise, and the Rocky Mountaineer and you will know why railfans the world over love visiting Canada's Fraser Canyon! This program was shot between July 2016 and January 2017.

Canada's THOMPSON CANYON

Canada's THOMPSON CANYON

22.00

The Thompson River cuts through the rugged country of south central British Columbia, Canada. Its wild and scenic course proved to be the best route for building a transcontinental railway and today is used by both the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National.

Continuing the journey that began in Canada's Fraser Canyon, we follow the Thompson River for 95 miles between Lytton and Kamloops. Both railways operate jointly over much of the territory with eastbounds using Canadian Pacific's Thompson Subdivision and westbounds using Canadian National's Ashcroft Sub.

Shot in both summer and winter, the stunning scenery and stark seasonal contrast is enhanced by the sight and sound of heavy main line trains. Massive coal, grain, and potash trains share the rails with long double stacks and mixed manifests. Canada's Rocky Mountaineer adds to the wide variety of trains. CN's new Tier 4 GE's are viewed working along side classic cowl bodied C-40-8M's! Illinois Central and BC Rail units create an interesting assortment of motive power along with Canadian Pacific's fleet of modern GE's. This is your front row seat to Canada's Thompson Canyon!

This program was shot between July 2016 and January 2017.
