Tracks of the Black Bear+ Algoma Central Tour Trains

Tracks of the Black Bear+ Algoma Central Tour Trains

£15.00

Double Feature

The Tracks of the BLACK BEAR

The Algoma Central, rich in history and renowned for its rugged scenery. Affectionately known as the "Tracks of the Black Bear", the ACR provides a vital link in the movement of freight and is one of North America's most popular passenger roads. After operating as an independent railway since 1899, the Algoma Central became part of Wisconsin Central's family of regional railways in 1995. Along with this change came revised operating practices, different motive power and new business. Rail Innovations captures the 'new' Algoma Central during both the beauty of fall and the harshness of winter. You'll be onboard and trackside as WC SD-45s and AC F-units move freight and passenger trains across Algoma Country. Wisconsin Central's Algoma Central is mainline railroading through some of North America's most spectacular scenery.

Wisconsin central's Algoma Central TOUR TRAINS

ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR TRAIN RIDES IN NORTH AMERICA

Journeying north from Sault Ste. Marie, the Algoma Central challenges awesome rock formations, glides through mixed forests of maple, birch and pine and skirts the pristine waters of northern lakes and rivers. 114 miles north, the famous Agawa Canyon, with its rugged beauty, waterfalls, picnic areas and hiking trails makes for the perfect summer and fall destination. Winter in Algoma Country is breathtaking and what better way to see it than aboard 'The Snow Train'! Clad in a mantle of snow and adorned with frozen waterfalls and rivers provides a dramatic contrast to those seen during summer and fall. From trackside and aboard the locomotives, enjoy the color of fall, the splendour of Agawa Canyon and the harshness of a winter blizzard.

SWEET STEAM - The Sugar Cane Railways of Java

SWEET STEAM - The Sugar Cane Railways of Java

£20.00

The declining sugar cane railways of Java, Indonesia, still host a wide variety of elderly, exotic colorful steam engines in both the cane fields and the mills, and also have a variety of diesel "critturs". Steam from O&K, including unique inside frame geared Luttermoller's, Jung, Ducroo & Brauns, BMAG, the last fireless loco's in Java and others. The little engines are worked hard, often brutally so, and some of the exhast noise is awsome!. Water Buffalo are used in the cane fields to haul cane wagons to the "main line". Union Pacific's Elegant E-9s Combo

Union Pacific's Elegant E-9s Combo

Featuring 2 Shows on 1 Disc!

Union Pacific's Elegant E-9s and Feather River Canyon E-9s

Sleek and stylish EMD E-8s and E-9s were the backbone of the Union Pacific Railroad's fleet throughout the 1950s and '60s. Their classic looks and efficient performance delighted riders up until 1971 when passenger service was discontinued. Twenty-two years later, with the restoration of E-9 locomotives 951, 949, and 963B, Union Pacific revived the image of its famous streamlined passenger trains. Pentrex takes you aboard this retro trainset for two of its most notable excursions. Included on this combo DVD are:

Union Pacific's Elegant E-9's.

When UP's elegantly restored A-B-A set of E-9s pulled its first excursion train from Denver to Laramie, Pentrex was there to cover the event in full. The locomotives look and sound great as they roar past our cameras, rolling over UP's Greeley Subdivision after their departure from Denver's Union Station. The throaty growl of the locomotives can be heard echoing through the hills as the E-9s pull the train up the grades of Sherman Hill. UP's Steve Lee explains the history of the engines and their recent reconstruction. You'll also go inside locomotive 951 to see the new cab control stand and V-16 prime mover. The era of luxurious train travel comes back to life with UP's elegant E-9s!

Feather River Canyon E-9's.

California's Feather River Canyon saw passenger train service once again when the Union Pacific ran excursions there in 1994. The Feather River Special, with 6 dome liners among its 15 passenger cars, was powered by UP's sleek A-B-A set of E-9s. Pentrex followed the train from Oroville to Portola on Saturday and Portola to Keddie Wye on Sunday. You'll witness the special at Williams Loop, Chandler Creek Bridge, Spanish Creek Trestle, and Keddie Wye. Also featured are the tunnels, the Highline, and the Portola Railroad Museum's restored Western Pacific F-unit. As a special treat, the camera takes you inside E-unit #951 for a cab ride from Portola to Keddie!
