COMBO Baltimore & Ohio 1950s + B&O / C&O Steam Power With Live Sound

COMBO Baltimore & Ohio 1950s + B&O / C&O Steam Power With Live Sound

14.00

Baltimore & Ohio 1950s Steam Action

Northern Ohio offered the last vistas of hard charging steam on the B&O. Running out of Willard, Ohio and Garrett, Indiana on the busy Chicago - Pittsburgh main line. B&O staged a spectacular show with fast freights powered by home-built T-3 and ex- B&M T-4 class 4-8-2 s. Other freights ran behind S-1 Class 2-10-2's. Local freights were handled by Q-4 Class 2-8-2's. Passenger trains were running with P-7 class Pacifies and EMD E's. Heavy coal trains moved by the big EM-1 2-8-8-4's and S1 2-10-2's. We finish with a brief look at the early diesels.

This is a programme of considerable charm and atmosphere made possible with some absolutely stunningly clear b&w and beautiful colour film with narration.

C&O Steam Power With Live Sound

B&O subjects include passenger and freight trains on the main line to Pittsburgh west of Cumberland, MD on the famous Sand Patch grade and other points. You will see locomotives in the following classes: 4-6-2 Pacifics, 2-8-2 Mikados, 2-10-2 "Big 6's", and 2-8-8-4 EM-l's.

C&0 subjects include coal trains pulled by 2-6-6-6 H-8 class Alleghenies plus a 2-8-2 -and a passenger train pulled by a streamlined 4-6-4 class L-2 Hudson.

All sequences have live sound recorded on the film at the time of exposure.

NOTE: Due to the rarity of the footage in this program, there is no narration to interfere with the original live sound.

UNION PACIFIC'S CIMA SUBDIVISION

UNION PACIFIC'S CIMA SUBDIVISION

23.00

California's Mojave Desert is the driest place in North America. It ranges in elevation from over 11,000 feet in the Spring Mountains, to 282 feet below sea level in Death Valley. Through this seemingly barren land, a mainline railroad charts a course connecting Salt Lake City with the rich ports of Southern California. It is known as Union Pacific's Cima Subdivision.

Covering the western portion of the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad, the Cima Subdivision runs for 173 miles between Yermo, California and Las Vegas, Nevada. Various intermodal trains race between Chicago and Southern California. Coal trains lumber over the steel rails along with heavy manifests for Salt Lake City, North Platte, and West Colton. Auto rack and ethanol tank trains add to the interesting mix of traffic.

Following the Mojave River, the rails pass through the amazing features of Afton Canyon then race across the dunes to the oasis of Kelso. Next comes the stiff 2.2% climb over Cima Hill. Draw bars strain as big diesels dig in for the nineteen mile pull to the summit. Crossing into Nevada, trains leave the lonely desert behind as they roll among the lights of Las Vegas.

This program was shot in March and April of 2018.
